Anambra Central LP Candidate, Unveils Plan to Empower 250,000 Women and Youths
The Labour Party's candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Venerable Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue, has pledged to empower at least 250,000 women and youths across the district if elected to the Senate in the 2027 general elections.
Ikezue made the commitment shortly after emerging as the party's sole candidate during the Labour Party senatorial primary held in Awka on Saturday.
Speaking after his emergence, the cleric-turned-politician expressed gratitude to God, describing his nomination as a divine mandate and a testament to God's grace. He also thanked party members for the confidence they placed in him and assured them of his readiness to provide purposeful and effective representation for Anambra Central at the National Assembly.
According to him, with the primary election concluded, the next phase would focus on campaign planning and mobilization ahead of the general election. He expressed strong confidence in his chances of victory and pledged to deliver quality representation that would address the needs and aspirations of the people.
As part of his campaign promises, Ikezue disclosed that he would dedicate his monthly salary throughout his four-year tenure, if elected, to programmes aimed at empowering women and young people. He said the initiative is designed to benefit approximately 250,000 residents across the seven local government areas that make up Anambra Central Senatorial District.
Describing the pledge as a personal covenant with God, he said it forms a central pillar of his campaign agenda. He added that comprehensive details of the proposed empowerment programme would be unveiled in due course and expressed the hope that other public office holders would embrace similar people-centred initiatives.
Reflecting on the significance of the day, which coincided with activities marking the remembrance of Biafra heroes, Ikezue paid tribute to those who sacrificed for the people of the Southeast. He noted that their courage and dedication should inspire contemporary leaders to pursue governance rooted in service, accountability and the welfare of the people.
The Labour Party candidate further assured constituents that he would champion policies and programmes capable of improving livelihoods, creating opportunities for youths and women, and ensuring that Anambra Central enjoys responsive and impactful representation in the Senate.
