‎Police operatives from Achalla Divisional Headquarters, Awka, have rescued a 15-year-old girl who was heavily pregnant and arrested a suspect over alleged defilement and child exploitation.

‎The operation, carried out on the evening of June 17, 2026, around St. Paul’s Secondary School, Achalla, followed intelligence on youths allegedly using crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as Mkpuru Mmiri. During the raid, officers caught a middle-aged man in a compromising act with the minor. The victim was immediately moved to protective custody, while Tochukwu Nwora was arrested.

‎Preliminary findings indicate the girl had been repeatedly defiled by different adult men at various times in Nando, Nteje, and Achalla. Investigators said the suspects lured her with small amounts of money, taking advantage of her vulnerability.

‎She was taken to the Police Hospital, Awka for medical examination and necessary care, which has since commenced.

‎The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikoye Orutugu,  has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for a thorough investigation. The probe will focus on identifying all perpetrators and determining if the victim’s parent or guardian is culpable, to enable prosecution of everyone involved.

‎The Command condemns all forms of child abuse, exploitation, and violence against minors, and reiterates its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and securing justice for victims.

‎The arrested suspect is assisting police with information to track down other persons connected to the crime. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
