IGP’s Representative Reviews Security Operations in Anambra, Promotes Technology-Driven Policing

The Anambra State Police Command on June 16 received the representative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, during an operational tour of the zone aimed at enhancing security coordination, strategic planning, and operational efficiency.
The nationwide tour underscores the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to promoting proactive, intelligence-led policing, while fostering stronger collaboration between security agencies and relevant stakeholders in addressing emerging security challenges.
Addressing officers and personnel of the Command, DIG Onwuemelie charged them to develop practical and intelligence-based strategies that are responsive to the peculiar security concerns of Anambra State and the South-East region.
The DIG further encouraged officers to embrace technology-driven policing approaches, disclosing plans to integrate artificial intelligence into investigative procedures and introduce specialised training programmes focused on the application of AI in modern policing. He reiterated the importance of a people-oriented policing approach built on professionalism, accountability, discipline, and respect for fundamental human rights.
Receiving the DIG, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, appreciated the visit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the vision of the Inspector-General of Police in strengthening community-based policing and improving security across the state.
The operational tour also created an avenue for extensive discussions with key stakeholders on strategic security management, intelligence sharing, crime prevention initiatives, and coordinated responses to threats affecting the region.
The Anambra State Police Command restated its determination to sustain meaningful partnerships with relevant stakeholders and maintain robust security measures aimed at promoting peace, public safety, and socio-economic development in Anambra State and the South-East region.
