‎The newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has assumed duty with a pledge to strengthen intelligence-led policing, enhance crime prevention and make the state safer for residents and visitors. CP Oji Ama made the commitment on  August 10, during his maiden press briefing following his assumption of office as the  Commissioner of Police in the state.

‎The new police boss also expressed deep concern over the recent tragic incident in Ideani Community, where four children, aged 6, 9, 12 and 15, were found unconscious. According to him, despite efforts by medical personnel to save the children, three were certified dead, while the fourth child is currently receiving intensive medical treatment.

He announced that the Anambra State Police Command would bear the full medical expenses of the surviving child and closely monitor the child's treatment and recovery to ensure that every necessary medical intervention is provided. “Our immediate priority is to see the child recover out of respect for the sanctity of human life,” he said, assuring residents that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be investigated with the highest level of professionalism.

‎The commissioner said that upon assuming office, he received comprehensive briefings on the security situation in the state and commended police personnel, other security agencies and residents for their continued sacrifices, cooperation and support.

‎He disclosed that his administration would undertake a comprehensive review of the command’s policing strategies and operational capabilities, with emphasis on intelligence gathering, intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, operational efficiency and proactive crime prevention.

‎CP Oji Ama further pledged to reinforce community policing, strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies, organised vigilante groups and other stakeholders, while deepening public engagement and confidence in the police. “Our objective is clear to make Anambra State safer, more secure and more peaceful for every resident and visitor".

The commissioner also appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and security-conscious, urging them to provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime. He urged members of the public to report suspicious persons, activities or incidents to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels. For emergencies, residents were advised to call 112 or 07039194332, while credible security-related information requiring the Commissioner’s direct attention can be communicated through 08081779961.

‎CP Oji Ama also appealed to journalists to uphold professional standards in their reportage, particularly during periods of heightened security concerns, urging them to ensure that reports are factual, balanced and guided by public safety and national security. He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for the confidence reposed in him, as well as to the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo for its support for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.

‎The commissioner assured Ndi Anambra that the command under his leadership would remain committed to protecting lives and property, preventing crime, maintaining public order and upholding the rule of law and called for unity, mutual trust and collective responsibility among residents and security agencies in the drive to build a safer and more prosperous Anambra State.
