BREAKING: CP Nnanna Oji Ama Assumes Duty as New Anambra Police Commissioner

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Nnanna Oji Ama, as the new Commissioner of Police, Anambra state.
CP Oji Ama assumed office on August 10, following the retirement of the immediate past Commissioner of Police, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police before his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.
The new CP is a seasoned police officer with over three decades of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force. Before his deployment to Anambra, he served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Intelligence and Training at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, having previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the same department.
A native of Ekata in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, CP Oji Ama holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Jos. He began his police career as a Cadet Superintendent of Police and received his training at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. His career has spanned several areas of policing, including intelligence, criminal investigation, tactical operations, administration, public relations and strategic command.
Among his previous appointments are Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, FCID, Abuja; Commanding Officer, 44 Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Area Commander, Nnewi, Anambra State; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Homicide, FCID; Zonal CID, Zone 9, Umuahia; Commanding Officer, 11 PMF, Calabar.
Also, Divisional Police Officer, Asokoro and Dutse Alhaji in the FCT; Coordinator of Courses, Police Detective College, Enugu; Commanding Officer, 26 PMF, Uyo; Divisional Crime Officer, Sango-Otta, Ogun State; and Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Command, among other strategic positions.
CP Oji Ama has also attended several professional and strategic training programmes in Nigeria and abroad. These include the Policy, Strategy and Leadership Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru; Joint Operational Planning Course conducted with the British Military Advisory and Training Team.
He further attended the Incident Site Commander’s Course organised by the British High Commission and the College of Policing, alongside the Tactical, Operational and Strategic Intelligence Command and Management Course, Advanced Detective Course, and various Squadron Commanders and Combat Operations Courses.
His professional career earned him recognition for courage and operational effectiveness. In 2007, he received a commendation award for uncommon bravery, courage and gallantry following the recovery of an AK-47 rifle during a shootout with armed robbers in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The new CP is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Nigeria Psychological Association and Nigeria Institute of Police Studies.
Speaking after assuming office, CP Oji Ama pledged to consolidate the security gains already recorded in Anambra State while strengthening cooperation among the Police, other security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, youths, women and other critical stakeholders. He assured residents, visitors and businesses in the state of the command's renewed commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing and combating crime, upholding the rule of law and ensuring a safe and secure environment across Anambra State.
